Biography of Richard Davis
Richard’s background is as a scientist; he has worked with a number of scientific institutions across Europe and has a PhD in Chemistry. He sits on the board of directors for the Campaign for Science and Engineering, a charity that seeks to promote science funding in government and advances in STEM education. He frequently speaks on science policy, especially with regards to the EU and in support of the Horizon 2020 budget, which will see more money invested into research and development, supporting jobs and growth across the EU. Richard is a keen advocate for evidence based decision making in politics and is standing as an MEP to be a scientific voice in the European Parliament.
Richard works in the City, where he is employed in the financial sector researching risk in UK banks. In this role, Richard understands how important the City is to London’s economy and jobs’ market, but also how important it is for the City that the UK plays an active responsible role in the EU.
Richard studied the effects of greenhouse gasses for his Master’s degree and has campaigned since for environmental issues. This led Richard to supporting the EU’s vision to reduce carbon by 20% by 2020. However, at a time when over 4000 people die each year in the capital due to air pollution, Richard will be bringing this fight home to challenge the Mayor on his targets to combat this.
