Biography of Roel Boumans
I was born in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, in 1963. In 1988 I graduated from Delft University of Technology in Aerospace Engineering and started working for the Dutch aircraft manufacturer Fokker. After nine years I left Fokker, moved to Wijchen in the east part of the Netherlands and worked for several other industrial companies, mainly as project manager.
I joined the Dutch liberal party VVD in the year 2000 and shortly after that I became active in local politics. In 2010 I have been elected in the town council. In 2013 I have been nominated as candidate for Member of the European Parliament for the VVD, which is part of the ALDE party.
I believe in a Europa that strengthens the member countries. The Dutch industry is strong and creates a lot of jobs in the Netherlands. We earn a good living on the Internal Market.
Europe should ensure that European products can be manufactured without unnecessary regulations. Europe should ensure that energy for these manufacturing companies is available at a low price and without subsidies that disturb the free market. Europe should ensure thant transport of goods is not hindered by tolls and bureaucracy. Europe should ensure that small- and medium enterprises can develop new products more easily.
In short, Europe shall be beneficial for a member country such as the Netherlands. And to accomplish that is my drive as a candidate for the European Parliament.
